H12 Tool Steel Bar is an oil-hardening, non-deforming tool steel. It is considered to be a "non-shrinking" steel and it can be hardened to a Rockwell Range of C 65 through use of relatively low temperatures. Tools and dies made from O1 will have good wearing qualities since the tungsten and higher chromium content gives improved wear resistance over the straight manganese grades. O1 is typically selected for its good combination of strength, hardness and wear resistance. O-1 is available in a standard finish as well as a flat ground stock and drill rod. These are precision ground to a fine surface.

Hot work tool steel is a type of tool steel specifically designed for high-temperature applications, such as hot forging, extrusion, and die casting. It exhibits excellent thermal stability, strength, and resistance to thermal fatigue, making it suitable for withstanding the intense heat and mechanical stresses encountered in hot working processes. Here are some key aspects of hot work tool steel:
Sizes: Hot work tool steel is available in various sizes and shapes, including rounds, flat bars, and squares. The sizes can vary depending on the specific application and requirements.
Grades: There are several grades of hot work tool steel, each with its unique properties and applications. Some common grades include:
H13 (AISI): H13 is a widely used hot work tool steel with excellent toughness, heat resistance, and wear resistance. It is suitable for a wide range of hot working applications, such as die casting, extrusion, and hot forging.
H11 (AISI): H11 is another popular hot work tool steel known for its high-temperature strength and excellent resistance to thermal fatigue. It is often used in hot forging and extrusion dies.
H21 (AISI): H21 is a chromium-tungsten hot work tool steel with good high-temperature strength and wear resistance. It is suitable for hot working applications that involve high-temperature wear and impact.
H10 (AISI): H10 is a versatile hot work tool steel with good heat resistance and toughness. It is commonly used for hot punches, forging dies, and extrusion tools.
Applications: Hot work tool steel is commonly used in various high-temperature applications, including:
Die casting: Hot work tool steel is used for manufacturing dies for the production of metal components through die casting processes.
Hot forging: It is used to make dies and tooling for shaping and forming metal parts through hot forging processes.
Extrusion: Hot work tool steel is used to produce dies for extruding materials, such as metal rods and tubes, at high temperatures.
Hot shearing and cutting: Hot work tool steel is employed in hot shearing and cutting operations, where the material is cut or sheared at elevated temperatures.
Make: Hot work tool steel is manufactured by various steel producers and manufacturers worldwide. Some well-known companies and brands that produce hot work tool steel include Uddeholm, Bohler, ASSAB, Daido Steel, and Carpenter Technology Corporation, among others.
When choosing hot work tool steel, it's crucial to consider the specific requirements of the application, the working temperature, the desired mechanical properties, and the tool's overall performance under high-temperature conditions. Proper heat treatment and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and performance of hot work tool steel.
